Gum - I Might Just Give It Up For Life!

Well, I very well might have just had the worst experience I have ever had with gum. Earlier today, I picked up a big tub of Dubble Bubble from Costco (for Halloween). Of course Brad had to get into it with his friends, which was no big deal since there's about 380 pieces in there. Brad had about three pieces and three of his friends had a piece each without incident.

I like Dubble Bubble too, so I decided to have a piece. I took one out of the tub, unwrapped it, popped it in my mouth, and began to chew. It only took a few seconds to realize that something was not right about my gum. It was little more than a bunch of runny liquid with a few chunks of something that was attempting to resemble gum. Initially I thought that it was going to start sticking together at some point to form gum, but it didn't happen. I spit out whatever it was in my mouth (short of the few pieces that were stuck to my teeth), and asked Brad if his gum was ok, to which he replied that it was fine and showed me his gum (which looked like what you would expect gum to look like).

Figuring that I was simply unlucky with my first piece, I pulled out another and tried again. Much better! This piece had the consistency of gum. I could tell the difference right away. OR SO I THOUGHT. After a few seconds of chewing, this peice began to get unusually soft and and sticky. This peice of gum was sticking together far better than the last piece, but it was also sticking to everything else. It had managed to pretty much cement itself to my teeth. My attempts at pulling it off resulted in little more than gum getting stuck to my fingers, hands, and face.

I tried sucking on an ice cube, thinking that it might harden the gum and make it easier to peel off. I was wrong about that too. I don't know if this peice of gum was bad too, or if it was a combination of the first bad piece mixing with the second peice that created the problem. After several minutes of failed attempts at peeling off the gum, and and ever-increasing amount of gum adhering to my fingers (of which soap was not easily removing), I figured it was time to try brushing it off with my toothbrush.

The toothbrush was semi-successful in removing the gum. It didn't get rid of it all, but it is much better than it was. The only problem is, now not only do I have sticky traces of gum stuck to my teeth, face, fingers and fingernails, I also have chunks of gum stuck to my toothbrush!
